Balajong
A downloadable game
Welcome to BALAJONG!
This is a student-made project created over the span of 3 weeks. It won "UCSC CMPM-147's Best in Class" award ahead of 35 other student projects. We really hope you enjoy!
For this game, we asked the question: what if Balatro were played with Mahjong Tiles? In this Roguelite-deckbuilder game, we focused our game around three key principles: PDL, or Procedural. Death. Labyrinth.
Procedural Generation:
Our game incorporates many aspects of procedurally generated content:
Procedural Enemy and Map Generation, Procedural
Procedural Tile and Deck Generation
Weighted Random Loot Table Drops
Perlin Noise Background generation
This ensures that no two BALAJONG Runs are played the same way.
Death:
One of the core mechanics is the introduction of a perma-death mechanic. When a player runs out of health, they permanently lose all items and progress in the game. Player Progression is reset upon death, and the core gameplay loop continues after defeating a boss. Player Progression is limited only by how far a player can go on a single run.
Labyrinth:
For the Labyrinth requirement, our game incorporates a procedurally generated Node Map of randomly generated enemy encounters. Players must strategically navigate through various enemy encounters, balancing both item usage and economy management in order to succeed.
